Sunday 10/30 9 am Avenue F.

Because I played to horrible last week I figure let's do it again because it couldn't be any worse for me. So once again I'm willing to look foolish for you guys as a punching bag. Sunday 9am Avenue F, because who's really gonna care 100 years from now.

THIS SUNDAY OCTOBER 16th @ 9:00 AM

Guys -

Remember - the annual hockey reunion is on for this Sunday, October 16th at 9 am. We don't have a lot of feedback from folks so I hope you all will make an effort to be there and capture a little past glory. If you skated at Ave F in the 70s (and even 1980) you are who we are talking to. Of course, we'll take any warm body, but this is really geared toward you old timers in your late 40s through 50s (and you know who you are).

No excuses! Be there!

Reunion on October16th

Alright boys...a year has gone by and we are still breathing (most of us). Today is the first day of Fall...so that means hockey is in the air. We are looking to get as many of our old 70th Pct roller hockey league brothers who played back in the 70's at Avenue F, to show up at 9 AM on October 16th. We'd love for you all to lace on skates and look like fools for a little while, but if you'd rather not skate - or can't - come down to the court anyway...we'd love to catch up. And bring your sons/nephews/daughters/neices if you'd rather have them skate in your place.

We've been doing this a couple of times a year every year for the last few...and we have gotten everything from a big turnout (two years ago) to a measly turnout last year...don't forget how much fun you used to have playing at Ave F as a kid - you can still recapture some of that magic for one day.

Hope to see you all there - and pass the word if you are still in contact with other former players from back then - no hard competition, just a chance to catch up, have a bunch of laughs and reminisce with old friends - and play a little of the game we all love.

Next Hockey Date: November 21 at 9AM at Ave F

Alright folks ... we had a great turnout in October and we are only looking for you lazy bums to haul your butts out to skate about once every four to six weeks so no excuses. And to those of you who missed the skate last time, you missed a lot of fun - the weather was crisp and the companionship was great. Kevin Ryan (ex-FDNY) and Ronnie Lopez (ex-Sawchuk winner) in goal - how could we go wrong? Lopez even pulled out one of his patented laying-on-his-back-and-leg-in-the-air saves. Ho cool is that?

So, with the exception of Alfred Guerrero and Mike Kenna who can't make it on Sundays, and Charlie Gili who is away at his daughter's tournament, I expect to see more of you old timers at Ave F at 9 on November 21 (the Sunday BEFORE Thanksgiving, so you won't be slowed by the turkey gut)...Hell, even Josh Seff is making a special trip from Texas just to play! Don't dissapoint him and me. Webster? Ryan? Pierce? Drudy? Savino? Competiello? Gruder? Spinner? Gelling? Brier? Placido? Maloney? All the rest? Come on guys, we need you out there. Life is short - and getting shorter every day. Hope to see you there.

Let Ron or me know if you are coming...

THE DAY IS HERE! HOCKEY/REUNION Sunday October 3rd

Alright you pansies....time to WD-40 your Kryptos and sand off the splinters from your old Northland and head to Avenue F on Sunday at 9 -- and if you can't skate anymore, head to Ronnie's house (399 East 4th) around noon or so for our at least once a year reunion. Charlie Gili promised to make sure the court is unlocked for us, and wished us well (he won't be there).

Some guys have been added to the attendance and some dropped out but all in all we should have enough to skate two teams without collapsing.

As far as I know the following will skate:

Ron Lopez (G)
Pete Liria
Larry Freid
Pete Savino
Pete Competiello
Kevin Ryan (G)
Mike Biagione
Dennis Maloney
Jerry Spinner - and he'll bring 3 or 4 friends
Christian Barbariantz
Gordon Anthony
Artie Scalo

Tim & Bob Slezarchik - No for hockey, yes for afterparty
Mike Kenna - - No for hockey, maybe for afterparty

A few guys responded they cannot make it (Pat Desimone, Paul McNally, Glenn Gruder, Neil & Eddie O'Callaghan, Charlie Gili, Josh Seff and Mike Kenna) a TON of guys just never responded so it is anyone's guess who else may show. Don't be a wuss - show up, even if it is just to hang out....an spread the word.

SUNDAY 11/1 (CANCELLED) NEXT DATE 11/15

Hi Guys,

Sorry, but due to the fact it may rain and also the NYC Marathon,
we are canceling 11/1 Avenue F Hockey. We will pick it up on
11/15 9 am down at Avenue F. And this way Glenn Gruder still
has more time to lift weights and get into shape.

So in the meantime here are more pictures from the old days.

Thanks,
Ron

HOCKEY CANCELED FOR 11/1 (Due to rain and marathon) New Date 11/15 9am

HOCKEY CANCELED FOR 11/1 (Due to rain and marathon) New Date 11/15 9am

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Sunday November 1st @ 9 am Avenue F

OK, so the next planned scrimmage is this Sunday November 1st @
9 am down at Avenue F. The only problem is it is the same day as the NY Marathon. So please check what roads are good to get into the city. The biggest problem will be the Verrazano bridge, which will be closed all day. So if you are coming in from Jersey take the Holland Tunnel or Lincoln.

It really does not cause many problems, except for the Verrazano and the FDR Drive. The West side is a clean run from the GW to the Battery Tunnel.

We are all waiting for the grand entrance of Glenn Gruder. I heard he is trash talking everyone about how much better he is and how he can still skate everyone under the table. How his body is an example of what women want while the rest of us are just ones and blubber. Yes, Gruder has been talking a lot, so I hope he really shows up so he can teach us all a lesson.

Some more blasts from the past

Looks like Neil O'Callaghan taking a slap shot with Bob Lesser looking on. Then more of the Avenue F Flyers sitting on the bench outside of the rink (on top). Can anyone identify the players in the picture?

Next Game 11/1/09 @ 9 am

We are an older group of hockey players (35-55) looking to just have some fun and share some laughs. Many of us in fact played down at Avenue F in the 70's and 80's, so being back here is just like old times. We are looking to get together about once a month because that's how long it usually takes to recover!

Our pick-up games start around 9 am and last a couple of hours.
No rough stuff or fighting please, because we all ready did that when we were younger. Also please bring one dark and one light jersey.

Inky's Fundraiser Game (10/4/09)

I just wanted to say thank you to all the guys who came down to the reunion game today. We were able to raise just over 500 dollars for Inky's family. It was a total blast and I'm sure we will all see each other again.

Hey, Sunday November 1st looks like a perfect day to play again,
how about it boys?

Fred Allen Memorial Game (October 2005)

Here are some pictures to get you guys in the mood. And no you don't have to pop open that bottle of Viagra for this one. No, just your stick, skates, and some hockey gloves. Be there October 4th at 9 am for our first of many Old Timers games down at Avenue F. We plan to collect some money for Inky's family the first game.
